Description

NovaStar VIT_Control Card — the heart of the Vunit chassis

The VIT Control Card is the main card of the Vunit 3000 chassis. It gathers the core control interfaces: one serial port, three relays, two I/O, nine infrared outputs, a CAN bus, a USB and a Gigabit Ethernet port.

Specifications

1 x COM: RS232 and RS485, DMX512 and Modbus RTU / ASCII / TCP compatible
3 x relay outputs: DC 30 V, 3 A
2 x I/O: 5 V input, 5 V maximum output
9 x infrared outputs: switchable to I/O, transmit only, commands encoded in base 16
1 x CAN
1 x USB 2.0
1 x Gigabit Ethernet

Technical Expertise

NovaStar VIT_Control Card — technical analysis

On a medium-sized room this single card is often enough: nine infrared outputs cover nine consumer devices — projector, television, player, air conditioning — three relays drive three circuits, and the COM port controls over RS232 or RS485 anything that accepts a serial protocol. Extension cards are only justified beyond that.

Note: the infrared outputs are transmit only. The Vunit does not receive infrared commands, it sends them — it replaces remote controls, it does not listen to them. Commands are programmed in base 16, which assumes having the codes of the controlled devices or capturing them beforehand.

Use Cases

  • Conference rooms — projector, screen and lighting control from one card.
  • Equipped meeting rooms — nine devices over infrared.
  • Museums and scenography — DMX512 for lighting.
  • Building automation — Modbus RTU, ASCII and TCP.
  • Base configuration of the Vunit 3000 — the card to plan in every case.

Technical Tips

  • Infrared transmit only — the Vunit replaces remote controls, it does not receive from them.
  • Infrared codes — programmed in base 16: plan to capture the codes of the controlled devices.
  • 3 A relays at 30 V DC — driving contactors, not direct power switching.
  • Often enough on its own — on a medium room, extension cards are not always justified.
  • DMX512 and Modbus — the COM port covers stage lighting and automation.
