NovaStar MX_4×12G-SDI — technical analysis

SDI remains the standard of television production and live performance, and a broadcast chain is not converted to HDMI to suit a controller. Without an SDI input card, a COEX controller cannot be proposed on a studio, capture or venue tender: the question is eliminating from the specification onwards. This card removes the obstacle.

A compatibility point to know: this card fits the modular MX2000 Pro (2 input slots) and MX6000 Pro (8 input slots) chassis. It does not fit the MX40 Pro, which has no expansion slots: its inputs are fixed, with a single built-in 12G-SDI. On a four-camera job you must therefore start at an MX2000 Pro.

Use Cases

  • TV studios and capture — four cameras on native SDI inputs.
  • Venues — existing SDI infrastructure preserved.
  • Virtual production and XR — 4K camera sources in 10-bit.
  • Broadcast tenders — without an SDI input the bid is not admissible.
  • Extending an MX2000 Pro or MX6000 Pro — a card to add to an existing chassis.

Technical Tips

  • Not compatible with the MX40 Pro — that chassis has no expansion slots: target the MX2000 Pro or MX6000 Pro.
  • Four inputs — one camera per input: count the sources before choosing the chassis.
  • Backward compatible — 12G, 6G, 3G and HD-SDI, plus interlaced formats: accepts a mixed camera estate.
  • Cabling — 12G-SDI coaxial up to 50 m: beyond that, plan an optical conversion.
  • Thermal range — −5 °C to +45 °C, narrower than receiving cards: ventilate the chassis.
