NovaStar MG200 — the entry point of AV over IP

The MG200 is the 2K encoder of the NovaStar AV-over-IP range. It captures an HDMI source and transcodes it into an IP stream carried over a standard Gigabit network, with system latency at or below 60 ms. It is the economical version of the MG420.

NovaStar MG200 — technical analysis

The difference from the MG420 is clear and easy to explain in a meeting: the MG200 is the 2K variant, the MG420 the 4K one. The MG420 takes selectable DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI 2.0 up to 4K x 2K at 60 Hz in 10-bit 4:4:4, and adds an optical port, RS485/232, infrared, I/O and relays. The MG200 has none of that.

What makes the MG200 useful is precisely what it lacks: in a meeting room, a corporate space or a 1080p security centre, nobody needs 4K or relays. Without it, the only entry point to the AV-over-IP range is the MG420, whose price disqualifies the job. With it, you answer the brief and keep the upgrade path on the same architecture.
