Description
NovaStar MCTRL700 Pro — the MCTRL700 revisited, with the latency removed
The MCTRL700 Pro is the 2025 version of the most widely installed sending controller in France. It keeps the MCTRL700 capacity — 1920 × 1200 at 60 Hz, six Gigabit ports at 650,000 pixels each, DVI and HDMI inputs with loop-out — and adds three things: zero-frame latency, under one millisecond, a light sensor connector, and control over two Ethernet ports instead of USB.
Specifications
Load: 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz, 8-bit RGB 4:4:4
Outputs: 6 x Gigabit Ethernet, 650,000 px/port, hot backup between ports
Inputs: 1 x HDMI 1.3 with loop-out, 1 x SL-DVI with loop-out, 1 x audio
Control: 2 x Ethernet ports (PC and cascade)
Latency: zero frame, under 1 ms
Extras: light sensor connector, cascade up to 20 units, pixel-level calibration
Format: 482.6 x 250.6 x 43.6 mm, 2.6 kg
Power: AC 100–240 V, 17 W
Technical Expertise
NovaStar MCTRL700 Pro — technical analysis
Zero-frame latency is the only change that really counts, and it opens a market the MCTRL700 could not address. Under one millisecond, the screen can act as a return feed for a filmed presenter with no perceptible lag: TV sets, conferences with keying, stages with live camera, e-sport. On a standard MCTRL700 the datasheet documents no low-latency mode, which is enough to disqualify it on those jobs.
Two other differences matter at installation. The light sensor connector, absent from the MCTRL700, allows automatic day/night regulation without a multifunction card — until now that was the MCTRL600 argument, it is now on the six-port unit. And Ethernet control replaces USB type-B: where the controller is in the rack and the PC elsewhere, the USB cable length constraint disappears.
Use Cases
- Filmed sets and conferences — zero-frame latency allows camera return.
- MCTRL700 fleet renewal — same capacity, same rack format, more functions.
- Fixed outdoor installation — light sensor for day/night regulation.
- Remote control room — Ethernet control rather than USB.
- Wide walls — six ports to shorten cabinet chains.
Technical Tips
- Zero-frame latency — the only decisive reason to take the Pro over the MCTRL700: it unlocks camera return and live work.
- Unchanged capacity — 1920 x 1200 like the MCTRL700: the six ports spread the load, they do not increase it.
- Light sensor — now present, which the MCTRL700 lacked.
- Ethernet control — replaces USB type-B: no more cable length constraint to the PC.
- Thermal range — +50 °C maximum against +60 °C on the MCTRL700: check in a closed rack.
