Description
NovaStar CVT10-M — multimode fibre converter
The CVT10-M is the multimode version of the CVT10. It aggregates ten Gigabit links onto two 10G optical ports, with a backup port. It is the converter for intra-building runs: control room to stage, plant room to façade, floor to floor.
Specifications
Ports: 10 x Gigabit Ethernet + 2 x 10G optical ports (LC, hot-swap modules) + 1 x USB type-B for control
Fibre type: OM3/OM4, 50/125 µm, dual core, 850 nm — 9.95 to 11.3 Gbit/s per optical port
Maximum distance: 300 m
Redundancy: OPT1 master port, OPT2 backup port
Power: AC 100 – 240 V, 50/60 Hz, 22 W
Dimensions: 254,3 × 50,6 × 290,0 mm — Weight: 2,1 kg
Temperature: -20 °C à +55 °C
Technical Expertise
NovaStar CVT10-M — technical analysis
The only trade-off that matters: multimode or single-mode. Multimode fibre (OM3/OM4, 50/125 µm, 850 nm) carries up to 300 m and costs markedly less in optics; single-mode fibre (OS1/OS2, 9/125 µm, 1310 nm) carries 10 km. Within a site — a room, a building, a control-room-to-stage run — multimode is enough and the optical budget is halved. As soon as you leave the building or cross a campus, single-mode is required. And if fibre is already installed, it decides: OM3 imposes multimode, OS2 imposes single-mode.
Its single-mode version is the CVT10-S, identical in every respect except the optics: OS1/OS2, 9/125 µm, 1310 nm, and 10 km reach instead of 300 m.
Use Cases
- Control room to stage — events, venues, auditoriums.
- Commercial buildings — plant room to lobby or façade screen.
- Studios and sets — ten Gigabit links on a single fibre.
- Sites with existing OM3/OM4 fibre — no re-pull needed.
- Redundant links — OPT2 backing up OPT1.
Technical Tips
- Fibre type — multimode OM3/OM4 at 850 nm. The single-mode version is the CVT10-S.
- Distance — 300 m: beyond that, change reference, not module.
- Existing fibre — OM3/OM4 imposes multimode, OS1/OS2 imposes single-mode: check the type before ordering.
- Redundancy — OPT2 backs up OPT1: route it on a different physical path for the redundancy to mean anything.
- Used in pairs — one converter at each end of the optical link.
