Description
The VISION PRO 3.9 OUT XL is an outdoor rental panel in a 500 × 1,000 mm format. Two figures define it, and they are not the ones usually looked at: it weighs 10.6 kg and refreshes at 15,360 Hz.
15,360 Hz: the real differentiator
The vast majority of outdoor rental panels top out at 3,840 Hz, the good ones at 7,680 Hz. This one doubles the best figure currently common on the market.
In practice, that moves the limit of what can be filmed. At 3,840 Hz a camera set to 1/500 starts showing scan lines; at 7,680 Hz normal shutter speeds hold; at 15,360 Hz the wall stays clean in slow motion, at short shutter and in multi-camera capture without negotiating with the director. That is the difference between a wall you film carefully and a wall you forget about.
On a shoot, an outdoor stage, a concert capture or an outdoor XR setup, this figure decides — not the pitch.
Black lamps: 4,000 nits that are worth more
The panel uses SMD1921 LEDs with a black package and copper wire. A black package costs raw brightness — which is why it sits at 4,000 nits where a white-lamp version would go higher — but it buys contrast.
Between lit pixels the surface stays genuinely black instead of returning a light grey. Outdoors, on content with wide dark areas or graphics on a black background, contrast shows more than extra nits do. The copper wire, for its part, affects ageing: better thermal conduction, less colour drift across the fleet's service life.
The positioning that follows: covered stage, shaded or north-facing facade, late-day event, forecourt in diffuse light, camera work. Facing south at midday in direct sun, you need a high-brightness white-lamp panel.
10.6 kg per half square metre
An outdoor rental panel usually sits between 30 and 40 kg per square metre. This one is at 21.2 kg/m². On a 7.50 × 4 m wall — 60 panels, 30 m² — that means 636 kg where a conventional build would call for close to a tonne.
That gap changes three concrete things. First the load calculation: on a truss, the headroom regained often allows one more row, or avoids a reinforcement. Then assembly: a 10.6 kg panel is a one-person handle, an 18 kg panel is a two-person handle — across sixty panels, that is half a day of crew time. Finally transport: at equal flight case volume, weight is what sets the number of panels per truck.
Curving
The cabinet accepts curving through dedicated locks, at ±3° and ±6°, concave or convex. At 6° per panel across a 500 mm width, an arc of twelve panels closes a quarter circle of roughly 4.8 m radius.
Curving is not a marketing extra here: this is a rental cabinet, and a rental fleet is more profitable the more scenographic requests it can answer without a further purchase.
Pitch and grid
The actual pitch is 3.906 mm — 250 divided by 64. Each panel carries 128 × 256 pixels, a density of 65,536 pixels per square metre.
The grid stops being visible at 6.7 metres and fine detail is fully resolved at 13.4 metres. That is concert audience distance, a square, a forecourt — not a shop window.
The grid lands cleanly on video formats: 15 panels wide make exactly 1,920 pixels, or 7.50 m for a native Full HD source, and 30 panels make 3,840 pixels for a 4K source. On a wall that must accept a standard feed without scaling, that coincidence avoids resampling softness and simplifies mapping alignment.
Power: what to plan for
Consumption is 235 W/m² average and 700 W/m² peak. Across the 30 m² of the example above, that is roughly 7 kW in normal operation and 21 kW at peak.
Sizing is done on the peak, never on the average: the peak is what trips a breaker on a full white frame. At 230 V single phase on 16 A circuits, plan for at least six circuits, balanced column by column to avoid voltage drop at the top of the wall.
Build
Cabinet 500 × 1,000 × 88 mm, 10.6 kg per panel (21.2 kg/m²), black-package SMD1921 LEDs with copper wire, 4,000 nits, 15,360 Hz refresh, 14-bit greyscale, 1/8 scan, 160° / 120° viewing angle, IP65 front and IP54 rear, rear service access, 6,500 K colour temperature, 220-240 V supply, −10 °C to +50 °C operating range.
Every panel ships factory calibrated and fitted with a Novastar A8s-N receiving card, so new panels can join an existing fleet without recalibrating the wall.
Where it sits in the range
For straight playback with no capture constraint, the ATMOS 3.9 OUT XL covers the same geometry at a more accessible positioning. For a fixed install in direct sun, the SUNLITE 3.9 OUT XL reaches 8,000 nits. For finer definition at closer range, the ATMOS 2.9 OUT XL drops to a 2.9 mm pitch on the same panel format.
Technical Expertise
State-of-the-Art LED Engineering
Our VISION PRO 3.9 OUT XL integrates industry-leading components to ensure long-term stability and superior visual output. By utilizing high-quality SMD1921 (Surface Mounted Device) technology, this module achieves a wide viewing angle and excellent color uniformity across the entire surface.
High Refresh Rate and Visual Integrity
- 15360Hz Refresh Rate: This ultra-high refresh rate eliminates flicker and scan lines, making it perfect for broadcast environments and professional photography where camera-ready performance is non-negotiable.
- Contrast Ratio: The precision-engineered masks and SMD technology provide a high contrast ratio, ensuring blacks are deep and colors remain saturated.
- Thermal Management: Designed for outdoor stressors, the module architecture facilitates heat dissipation, extending the lifespan of the LEDs and preventing color shift over time.
Unlike standard GOB (Glue on Board) solutions which can sometimes suffer from heat trapping in high-brightness outdoor scenarios, our SMD1921 configuration balances ruggedness with optimal ventilation for sustained 4000-nit performance.
Use Cases
Versatile Outdoor Applications
Thanks to its high brightness and fine pixel pitch, the VISION PRO 3.9 OUT XL is suitable for a diverse range of high-impact scenarios:
- Concerto and Live Events: Perfect for side screens (IMAG) where audience members are relatively close to the stage but require outdoor durability.
- Premium Retail Facades: Capture passerby attention in luxury shopping districts with high-resolution video advertising that stands up to direct sun.
- Fan Zones and Public Screenings: Provide clear, fluid motion for sports broadcasts where the 15360Hz refresh rate ensures smooth action.
- Transportation Hubs: Ideal for digital signage in airports or train stations where high-traffic visibility and 24/7 reliability are essential.
Pixelight provides the technical expertise to support these installations worldwide, ensuring your project meets the highest professional standards.
Technical Tips
Technical Optimization and Maintenance
To maximize the performance of your VISION PRO 3.9 OUT XL, our technical team recommends the following guidelines:
- Viewing Distance: With a 3.9mm pitch, the optimal viewing distance starts at approximately 4 meters. This makes it highly versatile for both street-level retail and elevated billboards.
- Power Management: Ensure a stable power supply and use high-quality signal cables to prevent data dropouts. Always calculate the maximum load per circuit to avoid overheating the power units.
- Controller Configuration: Utilize professional-grade sending boxes to take full advantage of the 15360Hz refresh rate. Fine-tune the brightness settings via software to match the time of day, prolonging the LED lifespan.
- Front/Rear Access: Regular maintenance checks on the seals and connectors are advised to maintain the IP rating integrity in harsh weather conditions.
