SUNLITE 6.9 OUT XL

The SUNLITE 6.9 OUT XL is an outdoor LED panel with a 6.9 mm pixel pitch, in a one-metre by one-metre cabinet. This is the pitch for large surfaces seen from a distance: where a fine pitch would spend pixels nobody sees, this one puts the budget into area.

The actual pitch is 6.944 mm — 250 divided by 36. A one-metre cabinet therefore carries exactly 144 × 144 pixels, or 20,736 pixels per square metre. That is three times less dense than a 3.9 mm panel, over the same area.

At what distance this pitch becomes the right choice

The grid stops being perceptible at around 11.9 metres, and fine detail is fully resolved from 23.7 metres. Below ten metres the dots show and the image looks coarse. Beyond fifteen metres, however, the eye no longer tells it apart from a 3.9 mm pitch — and paying that difference means buying pixels the viewer will never perceive.

This is the central trade-off of any outdoor display project, and it is settled with a tape measure, not a catalogue: measure the real viewing distance of the most common vantage point, and pick the pitch that falls just below it.

1/6 scan and what it buys

This panel runs at 1/6 scan: each LED is driven one sixth of the time, against one sixteenth on the 3.9 mm. For the same perceived brightness, each dot is therefore far less stressed. Three concrete consequences follow: high brightness reached without pushing the LEDs, lower heat dissipation, and a longer useful life. A coarse pitch is not only cheaper to buy, it is also easier to live with.

Position in the range

The SUNLITE 6.9 also comes in a one-metre by fifty-centimetre cabinet and a seventy-five-centimetre-wide format, to build heights that do not land on whole metres. If the viewing distance drops below twelve metres, move to the SUNLITE 3.9 OUT XL: at that range, the 6.9 mm grid becomes visible.

• Building facade seen from a main road — twenty to fifty metres back, read at driving speed. This is the 6.9 mm's natural ground: at that range it is visually indistinguishable from a fine pitch, for a third of the pixels.

• Large forecourt, public square or esplanade screen — substantial area, dispersed and mostly distant audience. The one-square-metre format quickly builds surfaces of several dozen square metres.

• Sports venue, scoreboard or stand-mounted screen — spectators are thirty metres away and beyond. A fine pitch adds nothing; brightness and reliability in full sun do everything.

• Roadside and town-entrance display — short messages, large characters, read in motion. Mind the text size: allow at least six centimetres of cap height.

• Construction site, outdoor event, large temporary screen — when area matters more than fineness and cost per square metre is the deciding criterion.
