NovaStar MTH310 — the temperature probe that completes the MFN300

The MTH310 is an IP65 weatherproof ambient temperature sensor designed to connect to an RS485 sensor port on the MFN300 multifunction card. It measures ambient temperature from −20 °C to +75 °C and needs no external power: it is powered at 5 V by the MFN300. Supplied with a 5-metre cable, replaceable by a 25-metre one.

NovaStar MTH310 — technical analysis

It is never bought on its own: it is an MFN300 accessory, and that is exactly what makes it useful. A well-designed outdoor screen reports two quantities — ambient light, to regulate the image, and temperature, to monitor installation health. The NS060-5A light sensor covers the first; the MTH310 covers the second. Taking one without the other leaves half the job undone.

The commercial value is in the maintenance contract. Continuous temperature reporting means detecting a failed fan or a blocked grille before the panels degrade. NovaStar does not publish the measuring accuracy of this probe: for monitoring and alarm use that is immaterial; for metrological measurement, it is not the right tool.
